Wait for Me! – Mount Kurama, Kyoto – Tee

A Japanese black bear mother, with the white crescent on her chest, walks the Kinone-michi root path in autumn and looks back at her cub, who scrambles over a root to keep up.

The tsukinowaguma, or "moon bear", is named for that crescent. The Kinone-michi, the path of cedar roots near Mao-den, is one of the most magical walks on the mountain, and red maples light it up in autumn.

Drawn from my own photographs from more than 80 visits to Mount Kurama, where I lead group and private tours. Printed on demand and shipped to you.
