Guardians of Kurama – Kyoto, Japan – Tee

$531.86 MXN (plus tax)

Kurama-dera's pair of a-un guardian tigers, drawn in the temple's own folk-art style: one with its mouth open (a), one with its mouth closed (un), the first and last sounds of everything.

On Mount Kurama the guardians are tigers, not lions. They are the messengers of Bishamonten, who saved the temple's founder, Kantei, in the month of the tiger, on the day of the tiger, at the hour of the tiger. Their statues stand at the Niomon gate and before the main hall.

Drawn from my own photographs from more than 80 visits to Mount Kurama, where I lead group and private tours. Printed on demand and shipped to you.
