The Mountain Is the Teacher – Shugendo, Mount Kurama – Tee
A yamabushi, a mountain ascetic of Shugendō, with his conch shell and robes on Mount Kurama.
For more than a thousand years, Japan's mountain ascetics have climbed sacred peaks to train body and spirit. Their teacher is the mountain itself.
Drawn from my own photographs from more than 80 visits to Mount Kurama, where I lead group and private tours. Printed on demand and shipped to you.
