About Spirit of Kurama

I’m Brian Brunius, a Reiki Master Instructor and founder of NYC Reiki Center and the non-profit Reiki Centers of America. I first climbed Mount Kurama to walk the path of Mikao Usui, and I’ve returned more than 80 times since.

Every design here comes from that mountain: the Niomon gate, the great cedars, the tree root path, the guardian tigers, the dragons of its temples and springs, the carved and painted images of Sōjōbō and his band of tengu, and the monkeys and bears who live in the forest. Most are drawn from my own photographs.

Christopher Tellez of San Francisco Reiki Center and I lead two journeys to Japan each year for Reiki students, Reiki Master candidates and Reiki Masters. In October we tour Kyoto, with three or more days on Mount Kurama. In March we spend ten full days on Kurama alone, a spiritual pilgrimage that attendees describe as life-changing. I also guide private tours of the mountain. If you’d like to join us, see the Japan tour page.
